Obituary of David Maurice McDonald
IN THE CARE OF
Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel
Born in Pensacola at the original Navy Hospital, David lived an extraordinary life filled with adventure, music, laughter, and love. He was born on February 24, 1952 to Maurice and Clarice McDonald. As a son of a military person, over the years he lived in the U.S. and England. David graduated from Pensacola Tech High School and went to work in the radio business. He was working in Idaho when he met his wife of 45 years, Bonnie. They would return to Pensacola where David was a DJ at WBSR, Q100, WOWW 107 and 1620 AM. He also co-owned WZNO Sports Radio. Together he and Bonnie built Boogie, Inc. and amassed a network of friends who felt more like family.

David's appetite for adventure kept him traveling to pan for gold in Colorado and riding the open roads on his motorcycle. David was a student of technology. He stayed ahead of the trends. In his later years he worked for Clear Channel, Google, BP, Nihon Kohden, United Rental and Army Corp of Engineers as a software trainer, installer and support, traveling to 47 of the 50 states, Canada and Brazil.

He loved his hometown and was always ready for a new business adventure or promotional event. He served on the Pensacola Beach Chamber of Commerce Board and was an integral part of the Beach's Mardi Gras. He was a member of the Krewe of Wrecks and Krewe of Brewe. David launched Mardi Gras Pensacola along with 4 other local businesses in the 80s, planting the seeds for what that celebration eventually grew to be. He was a patriotic soul; always proud that Boogie, Inc. was involved in the Blue Angels Air Show, the local Fourth of July celebrations and doing sound at the Veterans Memorial Park, as well as hundreds of military reunions.

His voice became familiar to millions and was as recognizable as his Boogie, Inc. hearse. He loved holidays and particularly Halloween when he could put on his vampire costume and bring his coffin to a gig. His positive impact on his community is his legacy. He leaves his friends and family to remember the good times, his laughter and love.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Clarice McDonald.

Cherishing his memory are his wife, Bonnie; sister-in-law Sandy Scheffert (Dennis); brother-in-law Mike Moore (Karen); sister-in-law Brenda Moore; his nieces and nephews, many cousins, his wonderful work family and his dog, Jake.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 28 at 10 a.m., services to follow at 11 a.m. at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel on Scenic Highway. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to Escambia Westgate School, 10050 Ashton Brosnaham Road, Pensacola, FL 32534
