John was born in Philadelphia and lived there all of his life, until he enlisted in the Marines 16 March 1966, at recruiting office in Philadelphia.
Arriving in Vietnam 27 August 1967, John was assigned to Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 26th Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. John was at a night ambush site, 12 kilometers south southeast of Phua Bai Airfield when at approximately 2130H the ambush team was fired upon with automatic weapons fire by an unknown number of Viet Cong hostile forces. Two Marines were killed during the engagement and John was wounded. He was med-evac to a Naval Hospital in Danang for treatment of his wounds. John died 27 December, as a result of hostile gunshot wounds to the body that he suffered 11 November.
Survived by his mother, Helen Addison of 844 East Willard Street, Philadelphia and his father; Thomas A Addison of 2258 North 2nd St, Philadelphia, PA.
