Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home in Nekoosa. Deacon Michael Lambrecht will officiate, burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Nekoosa. Visitation will be held on Thursday at Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home from 10:00 – 11:00 AM.
Jim was born March 8, 1940, in Wisconsin Rapids to George and Agatha (Reichert) Schmidt. He was a 1958 graduate of John Alexander High School in Nekoosa. Jim was employed by Nekoosa Port Edwards Paper Company (Domtar) in Nekoosa, for 37 years before his retirement. He married Priscilla Lamb, that marriage ended in divorce. In 1980, Jim married Judy Cook in Wisconsin Rapids, she died May 17, 2023. In his younger years, Jim enjoyed motorcycling. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and mowing his lawn. Jim was an avid Nascar, football and baseball fan. He always enjoyed his trips to Las Vegas and trips to the local casino.
Jim is survived his children: Jeff (Lisa) Schmidt, Kimberly (Don) Walrath, Kyle (Kim) Schmidt, Jamie Schmidt, step-children: Mark (fiancé Andrea) Olson, Tracy Young, grandchildren: Phil (Celina) Schmidt, Ben Schmidt, Chris (Abbie) Schmidt, Taylor Johnson Jr., D'Mytria Robinson, Lorby Olson, Danika Young, Gabrielle Young, Jake Young, 4 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Diane Schmidt, sister-in-law Della (Bill) Humphrey, brother-in-law Richard (Roxanne) Cook, and is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, wife Judy Schmidt, brother Richard Schmidt, and his father and mother-in-law.
