Baker-Blocker, Anita 7/20/1948 - 1/28/2022 Ann Arbor, MI Anita Linda Baker-Blocker, 73, passed away peacefully in her home in Ann Arbor, MI, on Friday, January 28th, surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Saint Paul, MN, on July 20th, 1948. She developed a deep interest in books from an early age, spending much of her childhood in White Bear Lake, MN, speed reading books at such an incredible rate her teachers insisted on having her IQ tested. She posted a genius level of 164 which was to define much of her life. After finishing her Bachelor's in Environmental Science and Master's in Public Health at University of Minnesota, she moved to Ann Arbor in 1972 to complete her PhD in Atmospheric, Oceanic & Space Sciences & Environmental Health at University of Michigan, where she met her husband Dennis. After her education she pursued a career in science, writing, and later entrepreneurship with a business dealing in antiquarian books. She is preceded in death by her mother, Betty Blocker, who was her greatest influence. She is survived by Dennis, their two children, James (Krista) and Alex (Neena), two grandchildren, James Jr. and Aiden, and her cousin, Jane (Bill) Hill. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 12th, in Holland, OH. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art, which Anita became a loyal supporter of through her friendship with the late Richard Titlebaum. Anita was immersed in intellectual pursuits and a had a deep drive for excellence which radiated in everything she did. She was a dominant personality who would seek out friends in unexpected places. She would never leave a gathering without folding origami cranes for all. She was known for her encyclopedic knowledge and could have a conversation about any topic. She will be remembered for her kind heart, positive energy, and fierce wit.
