Graveside services are 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17 at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield. Military honors will be provided by Bravo Team. Burial is under the direction of Cantlon Otterness Funeral Home of Buffalo. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer's Association.

Visitation is 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Harold Edward Adams was born Aug. 20, 1929, in Waukomis, Okla., the son of Charles Wilbur and Nannie Bryant (Taul) Adams. He died April 12, 2008, at his home in Buffalo, at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 23 days.

He moved with his family to Missouri at age 3. They lived at various locations in north Missouri. He graduated from high school at Weston High School in 1948.

He was united in marriage with Dorothy Tingler on July 9, 1950, in St. Joseph, and to this union four children were born.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Korea from 1951 to 1953 and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

Following the war he and his family settled in California. During his working career he was a farmer, machinist, business owner and a teacher in the Department of Corrections. He also worked for some time at the University of California in various positions supporting national projects in astronomy and national defense.

He retired as a stationary engineer with the Department of Corrections of California in 1990. He was very active in the Boy Scouts of America and enjoyed working with the boys as well as the adults. He started a Boy Scout troop and taught wood badge to adults.

He loved fishing, boating and camping, getting out in the great outdoors and traveling the United States. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion. He was a loving, caring husband and father. His greatest love and joy came from being with his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Dorothy R. Adams; one brother, Claude M. Adams; one sister, Lucille Post; and a half brother, Charles E. Adams.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of the home; two sons: Harold D. and wife, Barbara, Modesto, Calif., and David and wife, Kelley Adams, Sparks, Nev.; his daughter, Kathy and husband, Robert Anderson, Fresno, Calif.; four grandchildren: Michael Adams, Nicole (Niki) Sousa, Travis Adams and Alyssa Anderson; one step-granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters: John G. Adams, San Jose, Calif., Jessie Couchman, Rushville, Charlene Ruano, Scotts Valley, Calif., Herman Adams, Dalhart, Texas, Freda M. Tull, Mount Vernon, and Dorothy Post, St. Joseph; and other family and friends who will all truly miss him.
