From Grimes Bandera Funeral Chapel:

Barbara Ann Abele, 78, of Pipe Creek, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on September 21, 2023, in Bandera, Texas. She was born in Houston, Texas to Charles Frank Lucas and Thelma Lee Alexander on August 29, 1945. Barbara married James Abele on September 1, 1995, at Lake Powell, Page, Arizona.

Barbara was retired and enjoyed retired life to the fullest. She had an infectious laugh and was dynamite in a small package! Once you met her, you were considered a lifelong friend. She was involved with the Bandera Chamber of Commerce and was very active in her church, First Baptist Church of Bandera. She enjoyed playing the piano, singing in the choir, and being involved in bible study. Jim and Barbara loved to travel and visited multiple destinations around the world. They loved entertaining friends and family in their home but also enjoyed the solitude of their Pipe Creek home. Barbara and Jim had a lifetime of love and shared so many wonderful memories together.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents and grandson Timothy James Abele.

She is survived by her husband of 28 years, James Abele, and her daughter, Terri Simmons and husband Taylor, their children Stephen Simmons; Tiffany Fleitman and husband Aaron; Shannon Ballenger and husband Tyler; son Timothy Abele and wife Luciana; daughter Dawn Mower and husband Joe, their children Jessica Barber and husband John; Kiersten Mack and husband Robert; daughter Terri Abele, and her children Lindsay Richardson and husband Tony; Ashley Pilkinton; Katelyn Roberts; Justin Roberts. Barbara is also survived by 14 great grandchildren, numerous family members and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at 2:00 PM, at First Baptist Church of Bandera, Texas, with Bro. Chris McLain, Pastor, officiating. (Church Address: 1302 Pecan Street, Bandera, TX 78003) A private graveside service will take place on October 13, 2023, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, in San Antonio, Texas.

Barbara is leaving a huge hole in our hearts, but we have the assurance that we will see her again. This is not goodbye, this is until we meet again.

I John 5:13

These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that we may believe on the name of the Son of God.
