Mr. Metz was born Dec. 5, 1935, in Duck, W.Va., son of Kellis Ezra and Eula Vaughn Metz. After graduating high school, he enlisted and served 20 years in the U.S. Navy. He returned to the area after military retirement and worked for numerous furniture and manufacturing plants. He was a member of Marlow Heights Baptist Church where he was the first boy ever baptized in that church.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Metz.
Surviving are his loving wife of 49 years, Brenda Metz; three children, Leland Christopher Metz and wife Joyce of Maurertown, Dina E. Metz of Toms Brook, Angelia M. McLee and husband Richard of Stephens City; six grandchildren, Leland Jacob, Jessica, Julie, Zachary, Michael and Caleb Leland; and three sisters, Evelyn Stinson, Helen Kendall and Sylvia Darr, all of Front Royal.
A funeral service was conducted Saturday, Aug. 4, at Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home, Front Royal, by the Rev. Donald Reid of Mount Paran Baptist Church and Leland's nephew, the Rev. Donald Darr. Interment followed in Panorama Memorial Gardens.
