Wilbert August Gauer, 78, Sullivan, died in Sullivan on Tuesday, July 18, 2000. Wilbert was born on March 15, 1922, in St. Louis, son of August & Augusta Machan Gauer. As a young man he was united in marriage and had three children.

Wilbert is survived by two sons, Danny Gauer and wife Lana, Japan, Mo., Dennis Gauer, Sullivan, Mo., two brothers, Jim Gauer and wife Priscilla, known to most as Pat, Sullivan, Harry Gauer, St. Clair, one sister in law Della Stroud, his former wife Eileen "Ikie" Gauer, nee Busse, and special friends, Nora & Wayne Elsbree, Sullivan, 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Wilbert was preceded in death by one daughter, Helen Gauer, one grandson, Bobby Gauer, one brother, Robert Gauer, and three half brothers, Louie, Lawrence, and Leroy Stroud.

Wilbert was of the Catholic faith and in past years had visited the St. Clare Catholic Church. During his working years, Wilbert was employed as a cutter at the International Shoe Company in St. Clair, Mo.

Funeral services were held at 11am Friday, July 21, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, with Father John McEntee officiating. Interment was in the Anaconda Cemetery.
