Richard "Rich" Adams, 82 of Murphysboro, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family after a short illness.

He was born April 10, 1941 to the late Robert and Madge (Ellis) Adams in Murphysboro. He graduated from Murphysboro High School in 1959. As a teenager, Rich met a young lady while attending school, this friendship blossomed into romance and he married the former Catherine Sue Tincher in 1961 and they shared 62 years of memory making marriage. After high school, Rich became a barber and worked in Carbondale for a few years before changing his career path and became an insurance agent. He worked in the insurance industry for more than 35 years and was still working part time until his passing. Rich was a devoted family man, he stepped up at a young age to help his mother after the sudden death of his father. This dedication followed him throughout life as he was a doting husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and co-worker. He loved his work family as his own. Rich's smile would light up any room and those around him were always ready for one of his jokes or pranks. He had a lot of humor he loved to share with everyone around him. Rich was a hardworking man who enjoyed sipping on a whiskey after a long day of work. He loved tending to his animals and his 5 acres of land that he kept meticulously groomed. Above all else Rich was a loyal family man who loved to spoil his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rich is survived by his wife, Catherine Sue Adams; daughters, Christine Adams and Jill Heishman; grandchildren, Haley Heishman, Alexander P. Lay, and August Adams Lay; great-grandchildren, Gabriel Heishman, Michael Cook, Asher and Ebon Bartilucci; sisters, Brenda Lipetska, Jean Koch, Cathy Schudra; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
