Jewell E. Holt Florea, 88 of Lexington, Kentucky, formerly of Somerset, KY, passed from this life on Thursday, October 5, 2023 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
She was born on April 23, 1935 in Somerset, daughter of the late Jesse Dotson Holt and Winnie Vanhook Holt. She was a graduate of Pulaski County High School and earned an Associates Degree from Somerset Community College at age 65. She had many careers in her life including production manufacturing, hospitality worker, cosmetologist, farmer and local farmers market producer and seller, substitute teacher, PTA volunteer and state officer, published author of two autobiographical books, community activist, and longtime church member at Whetstone Baptist.
She was a kind-hearted, generous, and loving mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Leland Florea, and her siblings; Maydell (Holt) Dykes, Coyd Holt, Lenard Holt, Georgia Holt, Jessie Holt, James Holt, Hyle Holt, and Geraldine (Holt) Whitlaw.
She leaves her children; Debra Meece Duncan of Phelan, California, Edward Meece of Cincinnati, Ohio, Lee Florea of Olympia, Washington, and Shannon Florea of Lexington, Kentucky. She is also survived by five grandchildren Adam Duncan, Ashlee Meece, Asher Feddock, Anderson Feddock, Isaac Florea, and one great-grandchild Rosalee.
A Private Interment will follow at the Providence Cemetery in Somerset.
