Loren S. Alger, 93, who laid out Pacific avenue in Tacoma many years ago and also laid out the streets in Buckley and Wilkeson, died Tuesday in a Tacoma hospital. He was a native of Massachusetts and when young went to Greenville, Illinois with his folks who came west in a prairie schooner. He had been a resident of Pierce county 60 years. He had a wide acquaintance as a street engineer.
He leaves brother, Harry and Logan of Seattle, and Russell of Shelton; daughter, Mrs. Harriett E. Genther of San Pedro, California, and another daughter, Laura Shelnick, home address unknown; 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. Funeral announcement will be made by the Paul Mellinger & Son, Lakewood mortuary. (The News Tribune

Pioneer Street Engineer Succumbs
Death called Lorren S. Alger, 93-year-old street engineer, Tuesday night in a local hospital. He was a pioneer Tacoman, having resided in this city 60 years. Alger came to Tacoma from Greenville, Illinois by covered wagon.
During his career, Alger directed construction of Pacific ave. in Tacoma and the streets of Buckley and Wilkeson.
Surviving are three brothers, Harry and Logan, both of Seattle, and Russell, Shelton; two daughters, Mrs. Harriet E. Genther, San Pedro, California, and Mrs. Laura Shelnick; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
