Celebration of Life for Ronald Raymond Barnwell

On February 24th, Ronald Raymond passed away at 51 years old. The memorial service will be held at Wilson Funeral Home in Canon City, Colorado on March 6, 2023, at 11:00 am MST. A reception will immediately follow the service. All family and friends are invited.

Ronald graduated from Chandler High School, Chandler, Arizona, in 1990. In his senior year, he was undefeated in his wrestling competition and achieved the 5A State Championship. He also competed on the international circuit in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Germany, and Japan. He wrestled in Germany, the year the Berlin wall came down.

Ronald was born in Denver, Colorado. For his first six years, he lived in Silverthorne, Colorado. He then moved to Cleveland, TN, and later to Chandler, AZ, where he completed high school. After graduation, he owned his own business as a personal trainer in Los Angeles, CA, and Cleveland, TN. He enjoyed teaching Martial Arts to children and those seeking an advanced level. Ronald was a world-class athlete his entire life. He was also an avid snow skier and golden gloves boxing participant, winning second place in the junior Olympics. After graduation, he returned to Colorado and worked as an International Prisoner Transport Officer organization transporting prisoners. He also worked at Excel Energy. He had 20+ years as a heavy equipment operator.

Ronald loved helping his mom with her flower shop, delivering beautiful flowers to the entire community. He enjoyed having his mom and dad close by, watching him participate in his BMX bike and snowmobile racing. As much as he liked sports, he also enjoyed teaching his nephew Johnathan the art of building and riding go-carts. Many days you would find him working on several of his classic cars. His sister, Bonnie, loved taking care of her baby brother. She is going to miss her brother's sense of humor. On her 25th birthday, he gave her a card with a stork delivering a baby; on the inside, reading, "you are not so bad for a bird dropping". Ronald had a love for animals. Especially dogs and cats. Ronald's constant companion was his black Labrador, Champ, who was always by his side. He loved Champ so deeply, and Ronnie was Champs world.

He is survived by his parents, Ronald and Barbara Barnwell; and sister, Bonnie Cummings. He is also survived by one niece, Rachel Kasten; two nephews, John Cummings and Andrew Walker; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Hubert and Dorothy Barnwell; Lowell and Corinne Vickers; aunt, Carol Gassman; and cousin, Pam Doherty.

Ronald will be remembered and loved by all who knew him. There are so many more memories, but these are highlights.
