Levi married second to a widow, Elizabeth Thrash and third to Mary Hodge Boen Douthat on 1 December 1858 in Newton County, Arkansas. Information per the War of 1812 Widow's pension filed by Mary Self 12 April 1880.

Levi and Elizabeth were the parents of two children (twins):

Levi Self, Jr (1826-1911)
Mahalia Celia "Sealey" Self (1826-1890)

On 21 August 2005 Vonda Dihm submitted to the Department of Veterans Affairs documented proof of War of 1812 military service for Levi Self. The documentation was sufficient proof of his service and the Department of Veterans Affairs approved a military grave marker for Levi. The marker was delivered to Ford Carlton and he transported the marker to Newton County, Arkansas and with the help of Clinton Daniels he placed it in the Buffalo cemetery near the grave of Levi Self's daughter Mahalia Celia "Sealy" Self Casey. It is believed that Levi Self's daughter Susanah Self Daniels and her husband Jeremiah "Jerome" Daniels are also buried nearby in unmarked graves.
