Carrie Fry Spear Haley was the daughter of Ambrose Price and Mary Elizabeth Hazel Spear of Galena, Maryland. Her father died when Carrie was a young girl. She and her widowed mother moved from New Castle to Wilmington to live with Carrie's sister and husband, the Harrises at 2615 W. 18th Street, next door to the family of her husband-to-be, Joseph Allison Haley and his family. She married "Joe" Haley October 22, 1914 and they lived at that same address next door to Joe's parents for the rest of their lives. They had two daughters: Mildred Frances Haley, who died as a very young child, and Hazel Spear Haley.
