Obituary
Albert Murray McClure was born September 24, 1922, in Newton County, Georgia to Jonathan Albert
McClure and Mamie Olive Thompsom. He attended schools in Newton County and was subsequently
drafted into the U.S. Army in late 1944. He served in Germany unto the end of World War II in July 1945.
He served in Battery A, 26 Field Artillery in the Third Army.
He returned to Covington, Georgia and was employed as a service technician in automobile dealerships.
In 1973, he opened his own automobile repair business, McClure Automobile Service, which he
operated until his retirement in 1993.
He married his childhood sweetheart, Hazel Biggers, on January 11, 1941, and they were happily married
for 73 years.
Murray was predeceased by his wife, Hazel, and his daughter, Peggy McClure Smith. He is survived by
his son in law, R.T. Smith, Jr. of Rock Hill, South Carolina, his granddaughter Kelly Smith Petty (Jim) of
Rock Hill and grandson, Joshua Stephen Smith (Judy) of Whitefish, Montana, his great grandson,
Chapman Thomas Petty of Savannah Georgia and his great granddaughters, Macy McClure Petty of Rock
Hill, and Mary Hannah Smith of Whitefish.
A Graveside Service for Mr. McClure will be held Saturday, October 21, 2023, 11:00 A.M., at New
Covington Cemetery, Davis Rd., in Covington, with Rev. Billy Wade officiating. In lieu of flowers,
memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1169 Clark Street SW, Covington, GA 30014.
