Lewis was of British heritage, born in PA, served as a private in the Civil War, in Co. C, 2nd PA Prov. Vol. Cavalry, enlisting 27th Feb 1865, was discharged 7th Aug 1865 at Louisville, KY.
He had a second family in Mississippi, probably faked his death and was likely a bigamist, or even a "trigamist"! Research ongoing. Although Sarah stated, when filing for a window's pension, they were married by Rev. A. K. Bell, neither having a previous marriage, on 12th Sept 1865, I believe this was an error on her part or the part of her attorney writing the paperwork, and they were married about 1845-49 as their children were born before 1860.
