Cindy June Alvarez, 66, a Spokane Valley resident passed away peacefully in her sleep after a short battle with congestive heart failure Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2023.

Cindy was born in Moses Lake, Wash., on June 3, 1957, to Ted and Phyllis Benson. She was a lifelong resident of Washington, graduating from Warden High School in 1975 and living most of her adult life in Moses Lake and Quincy (Sunland) before moving to Spokane Valley to be closer to her daughter and grandsons. Grandma always told them that she loved them to the moon and back.

She enjoyed the simple things in life like spending time with her daughter and grandsons, traveling, celebrating special occasions with family and friends and watching the Seahawks.

Cindy is survived by her daughter, Erika Wiggins-Tate; grandsons, Tracen and Kamdyn; two stepsons, Brent and Heath Alvarez; mother Phyllis; older brother Steve (wife Kim) Benson; older sister Pam (husband David) Shipley; a younger brother Terry (wife Barbara) Benson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Frank V. Alvarez Jr.; her father, Teddy; and a sister who died at childbirth, Peggy Lynn.

Memorial services will be conducted at the Warden Community Church (201 W. Third St.) on Saturday, Oct. 14, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. with Pastor Ed Backell presiding. Food and beverages will be served afterward at the church.
