Rudolph (Rudy) Gregory Jurricks, Sr., 73, a beloved husband, father, uncle, musician, and friend passed away peacefully on Friday, October 6, 2023 at Frederick Health Hospital after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 17, 1950, in Frederick, Maryland to the late Robert Jurricks and Geneva Oram Thomas Jurricks.
His warm infectious smile and gentle spirit made him approachable to everyone he met. Rudy attended Frederick County Public Schools and was employed by the Board of Education, retiring after more than 30 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed football and was a huge fan of the Washington Commanders.
Rudy had an undeniable talent for music throughout his life performing vocally and instrumentally with Butterfly Showcase and Tony and the Newports, a local famous band back in the day, performing many R&B hits. He also sang with the Majestics - he often performed the song Clean Up by The Canton Spirituals which became his signature song.
Uncle Rudy to his church family, served faithfully in the music ministry as the best drummer at Asbury United Methodist Church, Frederick, Maryland.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Deborah Saxon Jurricks; one son, Rudolph (Rudy) Jurricks, Jr; nieces, Sylvia Naylor, Inje Naylor-Willis, Diane Barnes, Arlene Wars, Debra Stewart, Karen Thomas, Pamela Johnson; nephew, James Naylor (Emma) who were all fortunate to experience a close sibling-like bond with Rudy.
Rudy will be remembered fondly by mother-in-law, Shirley Saxon; sisters-in-law, Kathy Hopkins (Felix), Karen Barnes (William), Kimberly Ishmail (Ahmed), Robert Saxon (Cristal), Lisa Woods (Kenneth).
He will be dearly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends Joe Thomas, Johnny Thomas, Jack Thomas, and Edward Meadows.
In addition to his parents, Rudy was preceded in death by siblings Virginia Bernice Thomas Naylor, Alonzo Thomas, Elizabeth Thomas, Robert Jurricks, Jr.; niece, Jody Naylor; nephews, Ronald Naylor, Anthony Naylor, Sr.
To honor Rudy's memory and celebrate his life, visitation service will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 101 West All Saint Street, Frederick, MD 21701 from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 1:30 p.m.
Friends, family, and all those touched by Rudy's presence are invited to pay their respects and share in memories of a life well-lived. His kindness and love will be etched in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Frederick, Maryland
