Joseph S. Smith, aged 41 years, of R. D. #1, a World War veteran, who was admitted to Pittson Hospital, for medical treatment the previous Sunday, died there on Thursday, March 9, 1939. He was a member of the John D. Stark Post, American Legion.

Surviving are his widow, and these children, Joseph, Jr., Jeanette and Howard and a stepdaughter, Mrs. Alice Jones, of West Pittston.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon from the home of Mrs. Jones, in Pittston, with interment in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
