He was a retired employee of Kraft Foods, and later worked at Wal-Mart in Shelbyville as a greeter. He took great pleasure in spending time outdoors, enjoying nature and walking, especially in the fall of the year, and he was a fisherman.
The time he spent with his family was always very important to him. Even though he lived in Shelbyville, Bagdad and the people of the Bagdad community held a special place in his heart. When it came to sports, he was without a doubt a fan of the University of Kentucky Wildcats, and when it came to music, he was definitely an Elvis Presley fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Stafford Mitchell, Buck Mitchell, Selbert Mitchell, and Sylvester Mitchell; and his sisters, Ellie Kincaid and Mary Elsie Smith Yount.
