COL Dick Ament, 90, of Sierra Vista passed away early October 15, 2023, at CVMC with his wife Nancy by his side. He lived in Sierra Vista for the past 17 years.
Dick graduated from the University of California--Berkeley, where he excelled as a student athlete. He played baseball (shortstop) for the Bears for four years. He was captain and MVP his senior year. He held a Master's degree from George Washington University.
He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant of Infantry and later transferred to the Adjutant General Corps. His various duty assignments included: Ft. Benning, Georgia; Berlin, Germany; the Pentagon; Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Indiana; Ft. Carson, Colorado; Camp Zama, Japan; Presidio of San Francisco; Camp H. M. Smith, Hawaii; and Ft. Bragg, North Carolina.
Dick is survived by his wife; two daughters, Suzanne (James Boone) of Christiansburg, Virginia, and Tina of Arlington, Virginia.
He was predeceased by his parents, Grace and Glenn Ament; brother, Don; and first wife, Dorothy.
He was a lifetime member of MOAA and a member of Coronado Chapter. He served as President of the Winterhaven HOA in 2009. Dick was an avid golfer and enjoyed his association with fellow golfers at PDS.
Private interment will be at the Southern Arizona Veterans Cemetery [2:00 p.m., 9 November 2023]. A Celebration of Life with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 2:00 pm at the Pueblo Del Sol Country Club, located at 2770 St. Andrews Drive, Sierra Vista, Arizona.
