Coy William Oakley, 90, of West End, passed away October 19, 2023 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital.

Born on April 30th, 1933 in Person County to the late Dewey T. and Hattie Weaver Oakley. Coy retired as the leaf purchasing supervisor for American Tobacco Company. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Signal Corp. He served in the Carthage Fire Department for over 20 years. He also served on the Carthage Town Council.

Coy was an avid gardener and loved sharing his vegetables with friends. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren and was affectionately referred to as "Big Papa".

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Fuller Oakley and one brother Dewey T Oakley Jr.

He is survived by his daughters and their families, his companion and her children, and special friends.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 Sunday October 22, at Cross Hill Cemetery, McReynolds Street, Carthage, NC.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sandhills Community College, Coy and Ruth Oakley Memorial Scholarship, 3395 Airport Rd. Pinehurst, NC 28374
