On August 26 (1836) Gertrude Monfort Wikoff died at the age of 27 after giving birth to a son who died with her. She had married Peter Wikoff at the age of 13 in 1821. (July 4)
Gertrude had been born in New Jersey and came with ther parents, Peter and Ellen Monfort, to Deerfield Township in 1816. She was buried at Unity Cemetery and her gravestone was inscribed "Goretty Wikoff." The name, which she was probably called by all her life, derived from the strong Holland background of both her family and the Wikoffs.
