According to several references, Philetus Nichols was born on March 12, 1848, in Jefferson Township, Hillsdale County, Michigan. His father, William C Nichols, was 38 and his mother, Adeline Bennett Nichols, was 36. Together they had 14 children, including Philetus: David William, Avis, Hellen (Ellen) Adaline, Henry, Phebe, James D, Julia Elizabeth, William C, Francis, Franklin, Philetus, Douglas J, Owen B and William T ~

Philetus joined the Union Army as a Private in Company L, 11th Regiment, Michigan Calvary, on August 30, 1864. Sadly, Philetus passed away on November 21, 1864, in Mount Sterling, Kentucky. His passing was the result of wounds he sustained while engaged in battle with the Confederate Troops in Mount Sterling, Kentucky on November 17, 1864.

Where Philetus was laid to rest is unknown at this time but any information would be much appreciated ~
