Ralph Fleetwood Palmer was a territorial doctor known to commute on horseback for as long as 72 hours to reach his patients. He founded Mesa Rotary Club and served as Mayor of Mesa from 1910- 1912. He was with Dr. Joseph Greer and Dr. B.B. Moeur, established the town's first hospital, Mesa Southside. His autobiography is titled "Doctor on Horsback."
