Joseph Anthony Alcorn, Jr. passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 18th, in Westmont with his sons Joe and Jim by his side.
Joe was born in Camden on March 10th, 1940 the oldest son of Joseph A. Alcorn Sr. and Mary McCullum. He is predeceased by his younger brother William. His sister Ruth currently lives in Ocean City, Maryland.

When Joe was young he attended St. Peters in Merchantville and then was a member of the first class of Bishop Eustace Prep graduating in 1958. After graduating high school he started at Rutgers University and then was drafted by the United States Army to serve in Vietnam. He served active duty from Dec 1961 to Dec 1964 and spent just under a year in Vietnam as a radio repair technician. After his Army tour, he attended Temple University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1969.

During his time at Temple he got married to Cathy Smith and they had two sons; Joseph A. Alcorn, III and James J. Alcorn. They raised the boys in Collingswood, NJ. Joe then moved to Westmont, NJ in 1996 with his brother Bill on West Park Blvd. He also received a Master of Arts from Rutgers University in 1978. James also lives in Westmont, NJ and Joe III in Melbourne Beach, Florida.

Joe loved to ride his bike and walk. Up until 2001 he would ride from Philadelphia to Ocean City NJ on the annual MS ride. He also loved walking around the Cooper River with his sons. Antique cars were his passion. He owned a pristine 1955 Cadillac Series 62 convertible that won numerous awards and trophies at car shows across the region. He also loved to attend his sons and grandsons events and milestones.

Joe has 4 grandchildren; Ryan, Brett, Sean and Mark. Ryan and Brett live in Seattle. Both are engineers. Sean is an Air Force pilot and Mark is a senior at University of North Florida. Joe was well loved by everyone he met. He had numerous life long friends and will be missed by his family, friends and neighbors.

A graveside prayer service to honor Joseph Alcorn's life will be held Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Calvary Cemetery, 2398 Marlton Pike W, Cherry Hill, NJ 08002. A Celebration of life will follow at Ponzio's Diner on Route 70.
