Anna Gaskill was born in England, a daughter of William Gaskill and his wife Elizabeth. Around 1888, she married David Leitch Ward (1859-1913), a prominent Philadelphia businessman with a Southern background. They had two children, George and Josephine Harris Ward. After Mr. Ward's death, she married Lt. Gale Hamilton Alexander (1877-1918), a native of Asheville, NC, and alumnus of the Virginia Military Institute. Lt. Alexander was killed in action in World War One.
