Gary W. Cook, 79, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 8:35 p.m. Sunday, October 29, 2023, in OSF St. Mary's Medical Center

Gary was born August 24, 1944, in Galesburg, the son of Frederick and Margery L. (Smith) Cook.

He is survived by his children, Chi Kellar, Amy Cook and Stephen Cook all of Galesburg, Shelly Mitchell and Abby Fiora both of Georgia; one grandson, Brandon Cook of Eureka, Illinois; and two great-grandchildren, Rosella and Logan; and his three siblings, Thomas LeRoy Cook and Pamela Sue (Ron) Corbin both of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick Cook and Margery Albin and his brother, Michael Lee Cook and a stepbrother, Michael Goodwin.

Gary attended Galesburg High School before entering into the Army. He served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1964, earning the Parachutist Badge. He went on to work in many professions after the service. Gary was a jack of all trades; he worked in San Bernardino, California cleaning baseball diamonds, later started working on the Railroad here in Illinois, and even went on to be a car salesman.

Gary had many hobbies he enjoyed, especially his interest in motorcycles. He also enjoyed collecting guns, fishing, gardening, golfing, football and spending time with the people he loved.

Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel.
