North Gouverneur, July 14 - Our community was greatly shocked when word was received that Gertrude M. White, wife of George Whitmore, had passed away from this earthly home to the celestial home above. Mrs. Whitmore's death occurred at 11 o'clock on the evening of Thursday, June 24th. Mrs. Whitmore was the daughter of Lowell and Alice Craft White and was born in the town of DeKalb, July 21, 1874. On Sept 25, 1895, she was united in marriage to Mr. Whitmore and came to North Gouverneur to reside. She is survived by her husband, two son, and two daughters, Vernon, Myrtle, William and Gertrude Eloise, age 1 month; also by her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Rees of Richville and by three sisters, and two brothers, Mrs. Ora Downing of Richville, Mrs. Fred Whitmore and Mrs. F. L. Kinney of Gouverneur, John Rees and David Rees of Richville. Deceased in her early years united with the First Congregational church at Richville and was a great believer in prayer for divine guidance in the walk of life in the home. She was a faithful and tender wife and mother. On Sunday the home was filled with sorrowing friends who had gathered to pay their last tribute and the services were held amid impressive and touching surroundings. The casket containing the remains was almost hidden in the profusion of beautiful floral tokens. The services were conducted by Rev. E. H. Loan, of North Gouverneur M.E. Church. Interment was made at Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur. Among those who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Harvey G. Chandler, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert G. Chandler and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Burrill of Ogdensburg, Mrs. Adelbert Eggleston and daughter Lyla of Hermon, Mr. and Mrs. Sydney Moore of North Russell, and Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Clark and Mr and Mrs. Marvin Winslow of Canton.
