In the Apr. 27, 1910 U. S. census, 12 yr. old Frank L Matthews, b. in England, was attending school and living in a rented home at 1212 San Pedro St. in Los Angeles Assembly District 72, Los Angeles county, CA. with his
54 yr. old father, Frank Matthews, a self-employed Laundryman, b. in England
36 yr. old mother, Frances A Matthews, b. in England
14 yr. old sister, attending school, Eva W Matthews, b. in England
11 yr. old sister, Nora L Matthews, attending school, b. in England

S. citizen through his father, and had had previous military experience as a Corporal in the Canadian Exped. Forces.
Frank was described as tall and slender, with light brown hair, grey eyes and no physical disability that would prevent him from serving in the military.

On Mar. 22, 1926, Frank L. Matthews, a naturalized citizen of the United States (through his father's naturalization), was b. Aug. 11, 1897 at London, England. He was now a resident of Newport Beach and was applying for a license as Operator of motor vessels. His address was 210 Garnet St. on Balboa Island, in Newport and his vessel was listed as 165139 - 1- the "Sea Urchin."
Three witnesses signed the affidavit, stating that Frank was a person of temperate habits, of good character, and recommended him as suitable to be interested with the duties of the station above, including
Ira Rainbolt, Manager of the island Boat Line; Edw. F. Finske & Floyd E. Gage, both Motor Boat Operators.

There was not a radio set in the home.
Frank was 22 yrs. old and Marguerite was 20 when they married.
Frank's parents were both b. in England. Marguerite's father was b. in OH. and her mother in KS.

He was the husband of Marguerite and father of Edward, 8.

NEWPORT BEACH, Jan. 29 - Last rites for Frank L. Mathews, 35 years of age, a veteran of the Canadian army in the World War, who died at his home, 210 Garnet avenue, Balboa Island, Friday, will be conducted at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Chezum Funeral Home, Costa Mesa, by Rev. Russell C. Stroup and the Newport Harbor American Legion Post No. 291, of which he was a charter member.
He leaves his widow, Marguerite and son, Frank Edward.
