Penny S. Miranda, 61 of Northwood, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at the Lutheran Retirement Home.
Funeral Services will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 600 5th St, Kensett, IA with Pastor Linda Johnson Prestholt officiating.
Visitation and public viewing will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 1st Ave. South, Northwood, IA. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service.
Penny Sue Asbjornson was born December 27, 1960 in Albert Lea, the daughter of Alden and Doris (Forde) Asbjornson. Growing up in the Kensett area she graduated from Northwood-Kensett Schools. For many years, along side many of her family members, Penny worked at the Clear Lake Bakery. Later she worked for Carol George (later ACT) before finding her calling at the Northwood-Kensett School as a lunch lady. She loved her students and took pride in making them wonderful food, she was even known for making the best toast. In 2017 her health pushed her to leave, though given the choice she would love to be there still taking care of them.
Penny married Donald Mitchell at the Bethany Lutheran Church. The couple later separated and Penny was engaged to Todd Hove. Together they had a daughter just after Todd passed away tragically. Later, she married Ronald Miranda at the Little Brown Church, and to this union a daughter was born. They later divorced. Penny felt blessed with her two daughters, whom she loved dearly. Her free time was spent working on word searches and coloring, but she never turned down a trip to the Casino with Paula. Penny overflowed with love and was "Momma Penny" and loved being "grandma" to Angelica's children. Her most recent roommate was truly her partner in crime. Together they caused all sorts of mischief and had countless rubber band battles. Penny was selfless when it came to those she loved, always worried about others, no matter her own situation. She never let cancer beat her spirit and was always sharing her smile and love with those around. Getting up at the wee hours of the morning to "play" and spend time with Misty at the nurse's station brought her great joy. Her many heartfelt notes still adorn her daughters' homes, sister's house and the Lutheran Retirement home. Penny always signed with a big smiley face.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, grandson, sister, nieces and nephews, Mitzi the beloved four-legged companion, beloved cat, as well as numerous extended family members and friends.
Preceding her in death are her siblings, Pam Foss and Mark Asbjornson; parents, Alden and Doris; and maternal and paternal grandparents.
