Edna Emma Coldsmith

Edna Emma Coldsmith was born May 1, 1928 in Weleetka, Oklahoma, and passed away in Gower, Missouri on September 16, 2023 at the age of 95. Edna was a resident of Emporia for many years, and was preceded in death by her husband Don Coldsmith in 2009, also of Emporia.

Edna taught 2nd grade for many years at Neosho Rapids, and was involved in many activities in Emporia and Lyon County. She enjoyed working the local elections and precinct polls, serving on a Citizens Review Board for SRS, and was an ambassador for the American Cancer Society. Edna was very active in the First United Methodist Church in Emporia, and also coordinated an after-school program for children at La Esperanza Mission, sponsored by the church.

Edna loved to entertain at the home in Emporia she shared with Don and family, where she welcomed many visitors over the years. She also loved to travel, and enjoyed taking people to her favorite spots, especially in the Flint Hills.

Edna is survived by daughters, April Abril, and Connie Lorenzen, Don's daughters, Carol (Tenney) Smith, and Glenna Coldsmith; grandchildren, Nathan (Tia) Edwards, Lacey (Travis) Taylor, Heather (Tyler) Coldsmith Young, Zachary Donald Young, Cassidy (Joe) Toeniskoetter, and Christian (Jessica James) Whayne; and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her parents; and sister, Jeanne (Randolph) Rhoads, and Don's daughter, Leslie (Richard) Whayne.

A celebration of Edna's life will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Emporia, at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 16, 2023 with visitation preceding the service from 10:15-11:00 am. Edna's full obituary can be read at Obituaries - Hixson-Klein Funeral Home (hkfuneralhome.com).
