Obituary

Christopher John Adams, 47, was taken from this life in the early morning hours of Monday, May 29, 2023, at the home of his parents in Commerce City, Colorado. Less than twelve hours before, Chris was released from Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette, Colorado after two weeks of treatment for necrotic pancreatitis. The cause of death was attributed to either complications from a ruptured gallbladder or blood clot that led to heart failure.

Born on June 12, 1975, in Ashland, Kentucky, Chris was the youngest son of Sandy and Phyllis Adams of Commerce City, Colorado (formerly of Russell, Kentucky). He was a 1993 graduate of Fairview High School in Ashland where he lettered in basketball, cross country and track, and was also a member of the school choir. Chris attended Kentucky Boys State and was a scholarship recipient of the John T. and Ada M. Diederich Educational Trust.

Chris earned his bachelor's degree from Welch College in Nashville, Tennessee where he toured as a member of the Rejoice! Ministry Team. After graduation, he remained in the Nashville area for a few years and was part of planting Riverbend Community Church in Clarksville, Tennessee.

In 2001, Chris joined the staff of Montrose Baptist Church and Christian School in Rockville, Maryland. He served in a variety of roles in the school as teacher, assistant basketball coach, and athletic director. In the church, he led the production and worship teams before eventually becoming the Executive Pastor. It was at Montrose where Chris met the former Kyrie Dorn of East Northport, New York and the two were married on August 10, 2002. Chris and Kyrie served together at Montrose until 2007 when they relocated to Colorado to attend Denver Seminary. In 2010, Chris graduated with the Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership.

For several years, Chris was on staff at Foothills Community Church (now Revive Church) in Arvada, Colorado where he served as Children's Pastor, Pastor of Family Ministries and Executive Pastor. Chris founded the church consulting ministry Breakthrough Churches, as well as Rally Zoo, a church management database. He was also the creator and host of The Why Collective podcast. In 2018, Chris began working with Thrive Workplace where he was most recently the Managing Director. He was also on the board of directors for the Arvada Chamber of Commerce.

The greatest joys and accomplishments of Chris' life were his three beautiful children, Mckenna Brooke, Mason Russell and Kaiya Ariel. He loved his kids passionately and was so proud of them!

An avid University of Kentucky basketball fan, Chris also supported the Denver professional teams after moving to the area. He especially enjoyed cheering on his children as they participated in volleyball, track and soccer.

Along with his loving parents, Chris is survived by his wife of twenty years, Kyrie Dorn of Broomfield, Colorado; his brother and friend Sandy Adams Jr of Clarksburg, California and his wife Michelle, and their son Samuel; his mother and father in-law, Kirk and Marilee Dorn of Arvada, Colorado; his brother and sister in-law Kris and Jennifer Dorn of Costa Mesa, California and their son Caden, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins throughout the United States.

To know Chris was to experience the joy of his sense of humor. His laugh was full-bellied and contagious. He was the "King of Dad Jokes" and delighted in the eyerolls and groans of his kids after laying down a zinger. He was intelligent, inquisitive and could discuss a variety of topics with anyone. Chris had a tremendous capacity for love and friendship. Those blessed to be his friend had a friend for life.

Chris felt and thought deeply. He loved Jesus Christ and desired to see the church truly emulate the teachings of Scripture. A man of great character and compassion, he was very sensitive to the needs of others. His death leaves a chasm in the hearts and lives of those who knew and loved him. There was no one else like Chris Adams.

Services for Chris will be Saturday, June 3rd at Revive Church, 8270 W. 80th Ave. Arvada, CO 80005. A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. followed by the funeral at 11:00 a.m. The service will be led by his brother, Pastor Sandy Adams Jr, and very close friend Justin Bullis. Chris will be laid to rest at Broomfield County Commons Cemetery in Broomfield. Following the interment, there will be a reception at Revive Church. Memorial contributions can be made to his Go Fund Me to defer the cost of medical bills.
