HOULKA - Cecil Derwood McCullough, 81, of Houlka, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, at Daniel Health Care in Fulton after a cattle accident in May. He was the retired Chancery Clerk of Chickasaw County, having served in that position for 36 years, from 1956 to 1992. He was also a farmer and a cattleman. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for over 50 years. He also served as church treasurer, Sunday School teacher and Brotherhood Director. He was the Clerk for the Chickasaw County Baptist Association. He was a Commissioner and past president of Northeast Mississippi Mental Health-Mental Retardation Commission, Region III, where he had served for 39 years. This was a cause dear to his heart and an avenue in which he was able to help many people. He was also Board President of Natchez Trace Electric Power Association, having been a board member since 1967. He was the first board member of North South Ministries, a mission effort to Brazil led by his dear friend, Dr. Elton Johnson Jr., of Fayetteville, Ga. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines. He taught farmers in the GI farm school program. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Mississippi State University in agriculture. He was a member of the Lion?s Club and a Mason. He was, in every way, a servant of God and his fellow-man.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Shiloh Baptist Church, outside Houlka near Davis Lake with Bro. Kevin Waldrop, Bro. Bobby Long and Bro. Jon Haines officiating. The eulogy will be given by the Honorable Woodrow W. Brand. Burial will be in the Halsell Cemetery. Holland-Harris Funeral Directors of Okolona is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Jerry McCullough; three daughters, Angela Tunnell (Jackie), Marybeth Dendy (Harold), and Janine Freeman (Andy), all of Houlka; six grandchildren, Adam Tunnell ( Kristy) of Starkville, Audra Tunnell, Cullen Dendy, Garrett Dendy, Gabe Freeman and Darby Faith Freeman, all of Houlka.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Madge McCullough; and a grandson, Joshua Tunnell.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Burns, Merrill Chrestman, Thomas Jade, Dale Mooneyham, Todd Shields and Gary Young.

Honorary pallbearers will be J.H. Blissard, Arnold Doom, Robert Goodrich, John Andrew Gregory, Jimmy Hood, Elton Johnson Jr., Edward Lancaster, T.O. Martin, Robin Mathis, John McCarver, Jim Roberts, Dale Watson and Fred Wicker.
Visitation will continue today until service time at the church.
