Enlisted on May 17, 1864 at Columbia by Major Green in the 17th South Carolina Volunteers, The Lacy Guards, Company K. Wounded in action in trenches at Petersburg, Virginia by a sharpshooter(received gunshot wound in right lumbar region penetrating abdominal cavity). He was the son of Philip Sandifer and Sarah Walton Thorn. Married Mary Elizabeth Lowry.
