Nashville, NC

Charles Jones was born to the late Percy and Augusta Jones in Castalia, North Carolina. He was also preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Australia (Doc), Robert, Clarence (Pie), Eunice, Lucille (Totsy), Joseph (Joe), Lucious (Ike)and Paul.

He leaves to celebrate and to cherish his memory: his beloved wife of 53 years, Annie Jones, his dear daughter Jackie Jones, his special adopted sister Katherine Lucas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Charles graduated from Nash Central High School where he played football and baseball. After graduation, he attended North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, North Carolina. While there, he was a defensive end and linebacker on the football team.

After graduating from A&T, with a degree in Sociology, he was actively pursued by the then St. Louis Saints to join the team. However, duty to his country called and he was drafted to go to Vietnam instead. After becoming injured during the war, he was awarded a Vietnam Gallantry Cross Medal and two Purple Hearts.

After being honorably discharged, he desired to become a first responder and joined the NYPD. While working for the NYPD, he attended college at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and earned a B.A. in Criminology. He continued on with his graduate studies at John Jay.

Upon retiring from the NYPD, he moved back to North Carolina in order to be closer to his family. During his retirement, he took great pride and joy spending numerous hours a week nearly everyday making sure that his yard was impeccable. Also, he was an exercise enthusiast and enjoyed working out diligently at the Harrison YMCA.

Psalms 69:29 I am suffering and in pain. Rescue me O God by your saving power.
The family would like to express our gratitude to the exceptional staff of ECU Health Inpatient Hospice in Greenville, North Carolina. They helped to guide Charles peacefully to his transition in the final three days of his life.

The family will celebrate his life in their own way at a later date.
