Bette Sue Alcorn Belk, 92, left this world for her Heavenly home on July 26th, 2023. A visitation will be held at 6 to 8 PM on Monday July 31st at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel in Plainview, Texas. A graveside service will be held Tuesday August 1st at 11 AM at Plainview Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.
Bette was born July 25, 1931, to Arja Thomas and Naomi Daisy Alcorn in San Angelo, Texas. She and her parents and siblings moved to Plainview in her early years, where she graduated from Plainview High School, and then from business school. Her father "Tom" owned a bowling alley in Plainview, where she met the love of her life, Loyd Dale Belk, a Plainview native, who was just finishing a stint as a Navy pilot during World War II. They married on January 18, 1951, and made their home in Plainview, where they lived a wonderfully fun and happy life together for the remainder of their lives. Their marriage was a testament to their love for each other, their children and families, and their church and Jesus, and a model of married life to all who knew them. They were members at College Heights Baptist Church in Plainview for over 65 years.
Bette was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She loved life, lived it to the fullest, and made life fun for everyone who knew her. She cherished her family, and will be remembered for many things, including her wonderful sense of humor, which she shared with others to the end of her days. She loved to bowl, golf, swim, walk and travel. Bette's name is displayed on a plaque at Plainview Bowling Center naming bowlers with the highest scores, and the Plainview YMCA displays her name on a plaque for the most laps swam in a year. She had a passion for the game of Bridge, and earned a Life Master designation from the American Contract Bridge League. Bette and Loyd played Bridge with friends on a weekly basis for as long as their children can remember. Loyd continued to fly private planes, and shared that passion with Bette, who also obtained a private pilot's license in 1967, becoming one of very few women in the United States at that time to have a private pilot's license.

Left to cherish her memory are daughters Debbi Wilkins, Dana Bustos and husband Juan of Plainview, son David Belk and wife Karen of Decatur, Tx, grandchildren Shonda Tomsu and husband Toby, Brandi Barnett and husband Jeff, Sonja Goodman and husband Braxton, Jacob Belk and wife Victoria, Jennifer Hollars and Trey Hollars, sister Wanda Louise Mattheus of Lubbock, nieces Vicky Roshto, Sherry Russell, Christy Perry, Lezlie Lust, Kristi Weathers, 12 great-grandchildren and many other extended family.
