Emma Davis, 74, passed away on June 25, 1930, in Memphis, Tennessee after a three-day illness at her daughter Emma Brown's home. She had lived in Memphis for a year, moving from Morton, Miss. She was a faithful member of the Baptist Church and was well-respected throughout Scott County, Miss. Her son-in-law, William T. Brown, worked as the assistant secretary-treasurer of the Memphis Street Railway Company. She was survived by Emma Brown and another daughter, Estelle Measells, who was married to the Rev. John F. Measells from Pontotoc, Miss.; three sons, Ethel Mirabeau Davis from Morton, Miss.; Thomas Oliver Davis from Yazoo City, Miss.; and John D. Davis from Greenville, Miss.; two sisters, Alma Penn-Holmes and Nancy Elizabeth Penn-Roberts, both from Morton, Miss., and three brothers, William A. and John M. Epting from Pulaski, Miss., and Edward Penn from Mt. Olive, Miss. The funeral service was Thursday, June 26, 1930, at 4:30 o'clock at the Cole-Carlin Funeral Home, 1400 Union Avenue, with the Rev. Dr. E.F. Curle leading the ceremony. The body was sent to Morton, Miss. on the Illinois Central Railroad, where she was laid to rest.
