Gary Elliott Holcomb, Jr., age 78, born July 17, 1929, a resident of Bogalusa, LA, died April 7, 2008 at 4:30 P.M. in the Lakeview Regional Hospital in Covington, LA.
Graduated from Bogalusa High School, SLU, LSU and USM.
Colonel in th Louisiana National Guard and commander of the local unit, and a staff member of the OCS Louisiana Military Academy.
He was chosen as Citizen of the Year in Bogalusa, LA in 1980.
Taught school and coached at Bogalusa Jr. High and Bogalusa High Schools, and was elected Superintendent of the Bogalusa City School System.
He played and coached football, baseball, basketball and golf. He was 2nd runner-up in the Dupont World Amateur Handicap Championships 36th flight in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 1996.
He was a member of the Elizabeth Sullivan United Methodist Church, a member of the Chancel Choir and the Methodist Men's Group serving as president for several years. He was an active member of the Lion's Club.

His daughter and son-in-law, Jodi and Richard Oliver of Sabillasville, MD;
His son and daughter-in-law, Gary Wayne Holcomb and Shermain Creel Holcomb of Downsville, LA;
Two grandsons, Colby Wayne Aldon and Conan Wiley Charles Holcomb.
His Brother and sister-in-law, Johnnie Morrison Holcomb and Opal Durand Holcomb of Bogalusa, LA;
His Brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Donald Thurman Fornea and Jane Pittman Fornea;
Three Nieces and Two Nephews.
Preceded in death by: A daughter, Alison Anne Holcomb; His parents, Euga Morrison Holcomb and Gary Elliott Holcomb, Sr.
Arrangements entrusted to Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home.
Dr. Alan Einsel will officiate services with Interment and Graveside Military Service by the National Guard, 205th Engineering Battalion at Hillview Memorial Gardens.
