Rev. Walter Ray Ashburn was born February 8, 1878, in Sleepy Hole/Nansemomd, Virginia to Jacob and Penelope Ashburn. He went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 26, 1938 at his home in in Nansemond, Virginia.


Water was a member of Royal Baptist Church an eminent Baptist minister and church worker. He was nationally known for the reason that he had given his life to church work, both in the missionary and pastoral fields. His work took him to all parts of the county.


His children were: sons, sons, Calvin Ashburn, James Ashburn,

Miles Ashburn, Walter Ashburn, and Nathan Ashburn, John Ashburn, Richard Ashburn, Arcelina Ashburn, Jacob Ashburn, and daughter, Mary E. Ashburn.


Walter is survived by his wife Susie (Cain) Ashburn.



Burial in Cottage Cemetery on 30.Jan.1939 by Joseph C. Bond. Information as per death certificate. Cottage Cemetery is now called Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens
