Ronald William Acks was a highly accomplished professional American football player, with an impressive nine-year career as a linebacker for the Atlanta Falcons (1968 to 1971), New England Patriots (1972–1973), and Green Bay Packers (1974 to 1976). He was a standout on the field, with his skills honed during his high school football days at Carbondale Community High School in Carbondale, Illinois, and at the University of Illinois, where he played for the Fighting Illini team. He was a versatile player who started out playing in the running back position in 1963 and 1964 before changing to safety his senior year in 1965. Acks was also part of the team that won the 1964 Rose Bowl.
