Donald J. Tienor, age 78 of Manitowoc passed away Tuesday morning, November 28, 2023, at the Manitowoc Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Don was born on June 6, 1945, in Manitowoc, son of the late Arnold and Albertha (Jung) Tienor. He grew up in the Valders area and graduated from Valders High School in 1963.

Don was drafted into the United States Army serving from September 20, 1965, until July 12, 1967, when he was Honorably Discharged. While in Vietnam Don received two Purple Hearts and Bronze Star.

On May 15, 1971, Don was married to Mardell J. Sorenson at Faith Lutheran Church in Valders. The couple lived for 45 years in Valders, moving to Manitowoc in 2016.

Don worked for the Valders Lumber Company and retired from Braun Building Center in Manitowoc.
Don was active in the past with the Valders Fire Department and served as Assistant Fire Chief and served as an EMT with the Valders Ambulance Service. Don also served the Village of Valders on the Valders Village Board. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and the Vietnam Veterans Chapter #731 of Manitowoc, Thompson-Burkard American Legion Post #28 of Valders.

Survivors include his wife Mardell Tienor, Manitowoc; three children: Michael (Kristin) Tienor, Crandon, Sherie (Ryan) Nelson, Duluth, MN, Mark (Natalie) Tienor, Greenville; six grandchildren: Ethan, Jacob, Marissa, Conor, MacKenzie, Jackson; three brothers and sisters-in-law: David (Kathy) Tienor, Paul (Gladys) Tienor, Dan (Liz) Tienor; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Janet Wadzinske, Eleanor (Greg) Matczynski, Dennis Basken; three brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law: Bev Markovics, Roger Sorenson, LeRoy (Karen) Sorenson, Paul (Theresa) Sorenson, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Arnold and Albertha Tienor; two sisters and three brothers-in-law: Delores Basken, Mary (Jim) LaFond, Joe Markovics, Jim Wadzinske; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Claude and Mildred Sorenson.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Faith Lutheran Church, 255 Roosevelt Street, Valders. Rev. Dan Lyman will officiate with burial to follow in the Gjerpen Cemetery with full Military Honors.
