CLYDE EDWARD BUCKNER

Formerly of Belle Glade, FL, passed away peacefully at his home in Lake Placid, FL on Saturday, February 14, 2004 due to complications from emphysema. It was his 85th birthday. After working in the coal mines of Tennessee, he moved his family to Belle Glade, FL in 1959, where he eventually became plant manager of McArthur Dairy until his retirement in 1988. He was a Belle Glade Golden Rams fan during the 60's and then became an avid Glades Day School Supporter, following his son and later his grandchildren all over the state for football championships. He was also a past member of Kiwanis Club. He was a veteran of W.W.II, serving in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945. He was married for 62 years to Louise Sapp Buckner of Lake Placid, FL.

He is survived by his wife, Louise; and children: Pat Barton and Curt of Okeechobee, Sandy Walker and Roger of Clewiston, Eddie Buckner and Marie of Jacksonville, Brenda Prescott and Paul of Wellington, and Kenny Buckner and Becky of Okeechobee; a sister, Catherine Grubbs of Detroit, MI; and brother, Bob Buckner and Carolyn of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and special friends: Happy and Alicia Tucker. Mr. Buckner always felt that his biggest and most proud accomplishment in life was his family. He was born on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1919 in Knoxville, TN. He was the second of ten children born to the late Ulis and Mattie Buckner of Middlesboro, KY.

The family will receive friends at Glades Funeral Chapel in Belle Glade, FL on Tuesday evening from 5:30 - 7:00 PM immediately followed by a memorial service at 7:00 PM.
