He was employed for 40 years with the Texaco Oil Company, and for 20 years he was the head of the Oil Workers' Union. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows' Lodge.
The funeral will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in Cedar Creek Baptist Church by the Revs. David Weeks and Roger Jackson, directed by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Beard is survived by his wife, Fay W. Beard of Fayetteville.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
