Phyllis Ann Helmkamp, 83, passed away December 5, 2023 at the Ray and Kay Hospice Care Center in Paducah, KY.
Phyllis was born July 15, 1940 in Dawson Springs, KY. At a very young age she left school and married Creed Beavers. They moved to Evansville, IN and then Gary, IN. Soon they would become homesick and return to Crittenden County. After her children had left the house, Phyllis resumed her education. With her new skills, she went to work with the IRS in Nashville, TN. There she had the opportunity to work in the special task force office in Belle Meade that would take down Govenor Ray Blanton. From there she moved to Morganfield, KY to work for Sheller Globe, eventually becoming the operations manager. When United Technologies bought the company she and her new husband, Daniel Helmkamp moved to the corporate offices in Detroit. In Detroit, Phyllis hated driving on the interstate highways but became known for her Derby parties. Dan and Phyllis would retire and move back to Kentucky.
One constant in Phyllis' travels was Eastern Star. In 2004 she would become the Worthy Grand Matron of Kentucky. She belonged to the Princeton Chapter 315 of Eastern Star and Mexico Baptist Church.
Phyllis is survived by a son, Ronnie (Teresa) Beavers of Marion, KY; daughters, Pam (Randall) Turley and Patty (Baron) Guess both of Marion, KY: daughter-in-law, Rhonda Beavers of Marion, KY; sisters, Sandra Kaye Lantrip of Symsonia, KY, Debbie McKibben of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Becky Blanchard of Benton, KY. Her progeny also includes 11 grandchildren and a dynamic number of great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her mother, Virgina Tinsy Cotton; son, Donnie Beavers; husbands, Creed and Daniel Helmkamp and sister, Patsy Joe Convoy.
Services are scheduled for 11 AM Friday December 8, 2023 at Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion, KY with interment in Oddfellows Cemetery in Morganfield, KY. Visitation will be held from 5-8 Thursday at the funeral home with Eastern Star service beginning at 7 PM.
