On Dec 6, 2023, The Lord sent His angels to bring Charles 'Steve' Fair, 74, of Johnson City, to his heavenly home. He passed away peacefully in his home.

Steve was a lifelong resident of Johnson City. He was the son of the late Charlie and Charlotte Fair.

Steve graduated from East Tennessee State University in 1971. He was an outstanding baseball player, having played for ETSU and then in the AAA league for the Braves. He had numerous baseball stories that showed his inability to quit and one of the most determined spirits you would ever meet. In the late eighties, Steve started Fair's Heating and Air Conditioning. Over the past 30 years he created a successful business based on his honesty and care for his customers.

He loved going to his farm and spending time outside. His favorites were fishing and hunting. As his health declined, it was with the help of his close friend and cousin, Jerry Dempsey, that he was able to continue to enjoy dove and turkey hunting. He also loved watching UT football. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed hearing funny stories about things they said or did - the naughtier the better! Steve also had a soft spot for his dogs, Sam and Blue, and the special companionship they brought him.

Steve attended Boones Creek Christian Church as long as his health allowed. Even though he loved his family, nothing compared to his love for The Lord. When he was physically able, he would kneel beside his bed and begin each day with prayer and devotions. Steve lived by the Golden Rule. He would go above and beyond to take care of others' needs, even if it meant he had to go without. He truly shined the Light of Jesus to all.

In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by one infant son, Charles Steven Fair, Jr; one cousin, Sam Dempsey.

Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Shirley; three daughters, Andrea Reed and her husband Jerry of Tampa, FL, Sarah Melvin and her husband Kevin of Pratt, KS, and Katy Fair of the home; one sister, Mary Ann Fair of Jonesborough; one brother, Gary Fair and his wife Sandra of Jonesborough ; nine grandchildren, Isabella, Adeline, Olivia, Charlotte, Quinn, Finn of Tampa, FL and Henry, Sullivan, and Poppy of Pratt, KS; several cousins and special friends.

The family of Mr. Steve Fair will receive friends from 4 to 6 PM Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at Boones Creek Christian Church. The Celebration of Life will follow at 6 PM with Mr. David Clark, Minister, officiating.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Dr. Frank Johnson and his nurse, Terri, for the exceptional care they gave to Steve over the years. One last time, Terri, 'You're a dandy.'
Steve felt a special appreciation for Al Hampton, Jerry Barnett, and numerous others for their work and dedication over the years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to House of Hope, a girl's home, and school in Haiti. Checks may be sent to: House of Hope, 1576 Southside Rd Elizabethton, TN 37643.
