In 1960, Gertrud immigrated to the United States. On August 26, 1978, she married the love of her life, Henry Mata. Henry passed away on May 8, 2004.
Gertrud worked for many years as an Electronics Specialist. She enjoyed bowling, pool, baking and tending to her beautiful garden. She was a member of three Eagle Clubs: Gresham, Ranier and Portland Four. As part of her service, she knitted caps for the NICU. She was Lutheran, and her faith was very important to her.
Gertrud will always be remembered for the love and compassion she had for others and for her caring heart. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Her family will always love her and cherish her memory.
Gertrud was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter Joanne Ricciardi, her son Johnny Hardaway and her grandson Jimmy Hardaway. She is survived by her children, Jim Hardaway and Jesse Stuart; her grandchildren, David, Christine, Nicole, Tina, Riley and Josh; her great granddaughter, Kalena; her sister, Esther Stahl, and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed.
A Viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, from 11 am to 7 pm at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2019, at 11 am at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home.
