Rachel W. Devendorf, 74, Gouverneur, died Sunday at her home.

Mrs. Devendorf was a bookkeeper at Cappelino Abattoir from 1949 to 1976 and then at O.N.C.E. Bowling Corp. for 11 years, retiring in 1987.

Born Jan. 17, 1930, in Macomb, daughter of Weldon and Rachel Ingram Wainwright, she graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1948 and attended Watertown School of Commerce.

She married Delbert E. Devendorf on July 27, 1963, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carl B. Wells, Hailesboro, with the Rev. Frank J. Brown officiating.

She was a member of Silas Wainwright Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 633 Auxiliary and enjoyed camping at Hickory Lake, snowmobiling, motorcycling, hunting, traveling and spending winters in Florida.

Surviving besides her husband are a brother, three sisters, 24 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Two brothers, Weldon and Silas Wainwright, for whom Silas Wainwright VFW Post 633 is named, and four sisters, Bedorah Wells, Harriet Chaufty, Abigail Barney and Helena Laidlaw, died before her.

There will be no funeral or calling hours. Burial will be May 28 in Pleasant Lake Cemetery, Brasie Corners.
