Catharine Gravel was born in April 1849 in Llangendeirne, Carmarthenshire, her father, John, was 25, and her mother, Margaret, was 23. She married Howell Evans in July 1873 in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire. They had three children during their marriage. She died on 2 January 1932 in Aberystwyth, Cardiganshire, at the age of 83.
