Minnie A. Shawley Strain Trautman, who served as Pomeroy city treasurer for 14 years, died Thursday at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center at Lewiston of cancer. She was 70.

She was elected treasurer for the city of Pomeroy in 1970 and held the position until she retired in 1984.

She was born Aug. 18, 1919, on Pataha Flat, south of Pomeroy, to Ernest James and Kate Aurene Williamson Shawley. She attended Pataha Flat School and graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1937. After graduation, she worked at the Emerson Hull Department Store in Pomeroy.

She married William Marcus Strain on Aug. 3, 1941. After their marriage, they worked at Strain's Furniture/Hardware store, a business owned by her husband's parents, Mr. and Mrs. M.D. Strain. After the hardware store was destroyed by fire in 1959, she and her husband opened and operated Strain's Department Store from 1960 to 1968. William Strain died in September 1976.

She married W.B. Trautman in September 1977.

Mrs. Trautman was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, St. Peter's church women, and the Order of the Eastern Star, once serving as a past worthy matron. She was active in the American Cancer Society, the VFW Auxiliary the Eagles Auxiliary and volunteered at Memory Manor, a Pomeroy nursing home.

She is survived by her husband at Spokane; three daughters, Wanoah Thompson of Warden, Wash., Bobbie Miller of Lewiston, and Debbie Keatts of Pomeroy; a son, James D. Strain of Spokane; two stepsons, Wilfred Trautman Jr. of Spokane and Greg Trautman of Issaquah, Wash.; two sisters, Jennie Wade and Betty Keatts, both of Pomeroy; five grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Richardson-Brown Funeral Home at Pomeroy. The Rev. Larry Harrelson of Lewiston will officiate. Burial will be at Pomeroy Cemetery.

The family suggests any memorials be made to St. Peter's Episcopal Church at Pomeroy or the Sacred Heart Medical Center cancer center development fund, W. 101 Eighth Ave., Spokane, Wash., 99220.
